The boot is excellent for snow and ice. Not only do the boots keep the feet warm and dry, they also are very comfortable. I would highly suggest these boots!

The color around the shoelaces area is not black as displayed in the picture but light grey matching the color on the sole. I wanted black boots and did not get what I order. Unfortunately I live outside USA so I won’t be able to return them.

I happily purchased these boots thinking that they would be a durable and comfortable work boot. Unfortunately they are not. The soles are seperating and the rubber next to the laces at the toe of the right boot has split. Too bad the return policy is what it is . Someone else that I work with has had a pair of these boots for 3 years with no problems. That was the main reason that I purchased these boots. Never again will I buy Merrell Products.

There’s an account in the National Holocaust museum of a womans experience in one of the death marches. In it, she recounts the advice of her father who had told her that it would be of utmost importance to take care of her feet because ultimately many things can be overcome if one still has a means of moving about.
The story surrounding the advice is quite profound and the story of the womans survival which she attributes to successfully caring for her feet has stayed with me. While I always felt that owning good shoes was important, as I have gotten older, this has become more obvious and fortunately more possible economically.
So I come to my feelings about this boot. I have years of experience as an outdoorsman. I have both enjoyed and endured several brands of boots. I remember the first 50-mile hike that I took with the Boy Scouts, and the ill-fated decision the leaders made to outfit us all with bargain-store hiking boots. Well into the hike a large number of us developed painful blisters, chronic wet feet, and the misery that goes with them. As we were not in a position to just “quit and go home”, we had to persevere and grow callouses on our feet and characters.
The lesson was valuable and never again would our troop overlook the importance of good footwear. I found out how expensive good boots could be but never avoided choosing what I needed to ensure I would not go through this again.
This is my second pair of Merrell boots. My first served me well. I knew it was time to replace them when, for the first time ever, I felt water leak in from outside – I had worn the sole through! I couldn’t wait to get another pair. They had many miles on them, had gone through some very rough trips, and never left my feet cold or wet, and always made me feel sure-footed.
The timing for wearing out these boots was pretty bad. It’s the dead of winter. It’s been snowing for days. The temperatures are in single digits. For a couple days I wore my dress shoes out to the car, tippy-toeing through the snow and slush, and then into work the same way. I had to get new boots!
I did my homework and decided I would like these. The selling points for me were the promise of a waterproof boot that provided warmth in cold weather.
The first time I wore them I was delighted. In the old days it took a long time to break in a pair of boots. That’s not the case with these boots. It really only took a couple minutes to get the laces adjusted and a few more minutes walking around in them and they felt like old friends.
I walked out the front door. It was 8-degrees with a 20 mph wind. The ground was covered with snow and ice. I felt sure-footed and my feet stayed warm. I walked through the snow with the same impunity that I have developed from wearing my last pair of Merrells. When I got to work I enjoyed the same luxury walking through the parking lot into the office.
The office? Wear these to the office? That’s the other thing. While I agree one would not wear these boots with dress clothes for the high-end “business casual”, they certainly look good in regular business casual clothing in a more informal setting. And really, you can always carry your dress shoes in and change if that is important.
For the trail, and for outdoor activities where the terrain is challenging and the promise of cold and moisture abounds, these are the boots I want on my feet.
They have the added bonus of being relatively light weight. They’re certainly a LOT lighter than the hiking boots of old. They lace easily and stay as tight as you make them.
There’s just nothing I can say to detract from the form and function of these boots for my purposes. Don’t hesitate to buy these boots if you are serious about taking care of your feet, want to stay warm and dry, and have traction.
One comment – the sizes run small – that is to say I found that my size 11.5 foot fits just right into a size 12 with one pair of medium weight socks. In fact the 13 would probably be the right size if I wanted to wear two pair of heavy socks. But in my experience, I have never felt it necessary to wear two pair of socks in these boots. Your mileage may vary on size and sock preferences.

This is my husbands second pair in three years. He works for FedEx and is in and out of the truck all day and these boots are not to heavy and clunky. They have great tread on the bottom which helps keep him from falling when unloading and loading his truck in the snow and ice. I would recommend these boots to any one who is out in the snow and ice all day and works a lot outside. The only reason this is his second pair is because he wears the soles off of shoes.
